Entry #10

"Rapunzel" is a fairy tale that in the past couple of years has taken the world by storm, with the Disney adaptation Tangled. The original tale, while very different from the Disney movie, has inspired many different forms of other media as well. For example comic strips were created, sometime for political reasons or purely comedic, with the theme of "Rapunzel" as the influence. Below, I included one of many cartoons that portrays "Rapunzel: The Lean Years" where they seem to be living in a modern day society. The "Prince" is a scruffy man holding what seems to be like a bottle of alcohol, calling up to his "Rapunzel" who is wearing red cat-eye glasses and has a ridiculous hairstyle. The "Prince" is calling up, "Let your hair down, Baby! The elevator's broken again!" to his princess. This is majorly different from the Disney movie, as the movie's Rapunzel and Prince (Flynn Rider) are both young adults and are living in a kingdom. These two in the cartoon are rather old and living in what looks like a run down apartment complex. The movie also includes a villain, Mother Gothel, where in the cartoon strip there is no villain to be seen, other than the evil broken elevator. This comic strip is a far fetched adaptation of the fairy tale of "Rapunzel", with a comical twist for readers to have a light chuckle.
